Luego de que el gobierno de Estados Unidos prohibiera a Huawei en su red de telecomunicaciones, ha estado presionando para que grandes compañías como Microsoft se involucren más con el 5G. Como respuesta, Microsoft Corp reveló su nueva plataforma en la nube, que permitirá que los operadores de telecomunicaciones construyan redes 5G de una forma rápida,con un menor costo de infraestructura y con la posibilidad de vender servicios personalizados a clientes empresariales. Asimismo, usará inteligencia artificial para automatizar las operaciones.
La nueva plataforma estará en Azure, el negocio estrella de Microsoft de computación en nube. Yousef Khalidi, vicepresidente corporativo de Azure Networking, indicó que esta plataforma podría reducir los costos en 30% a 40% en algunos casos.
Esta gran compañía entró a la guerra del 5G, luego de adquirir las empresas de redes en la nube Affirmed Networks y Metaswitch a prinicipios del 2020. “El ADN de las telecomunicaciones se obtuvo a través de esas adquisiciones y pasamos de un pequeño número de ingenieros en este sector a literalmente cientos de ingenieros”, señaló Khalidi.
Hasta el momento, Microsoft ya se ha asociado con operadores de telecomunicaciones importantes, como Verizon y AT&T. Definitivamente, el ingreso de la compañía aumentará la competencia por los actuales proveedores de servicios 5G como Nokia y Ericsson, dijo el analista de CCS Insight Nicholas McQuire.
